Even if you currently believe that you are nothing more than your physical body, personality and mind, nothing could be farther from the truth. You are a soul, a spirit of light and consciousness, who is more vast and complex than your physical body. Your soul is the organizing energetic principle that is your entire being; your soul exists in multiple dimensions and contains within itself your physical body, emotional body, and spiritual body. From a more scientific perspective, you can think of your soul as an electromagnetic field of energy, frequency and information. Your individual consciousness is unique and, at the same time, part of an interconnected universal whole. In fact, Spirit can be understood, at one level, as a unified field of vibration, with each one of us being a vibratory frequency within that field.
Before incarnating as a human being, your soul selects the circumstances of your birth, life and death. Your soul chooses specific karmic patterns and characteristics in order to call forth particular lessons for a given lifetime. Even so, you always retain free will, or the power of individual choice, within the parameters chosen by your soul for your current incarnation.
Physical life provides you with a mechanism through which to experience and live out lessons that will evolve your individual consciousness. The process of life is a little like learning to play a musical instrument or a sport – first you learn the basics and then with practice, you gain fluency and eventually, mastery. It’s the same way with the nature of your soul – with each incarnation or lifetime, you are given many opportunities to practice the lessons of love, peace, wisdom, patience, compassion, justice, self-confidence, self-empowerment, creativity, vision, courage and trust, to name a few.
The entire purpose of physical incarnation is still a mystery, but one important aspect is known: that is, learning responsible creatorship while coming to know yourself fully as a divine being of light. Your soul is your unique energy pattern and your eternal consciousness – it cannot be destroyed. Nevertheless, it does undergo physical birth and death – with all its joys, successes, struggles and failures – in its desire to refine its understanding of the universe, to experience itself as a unique entity within the mind of the Creator, and to discover its part in the interconnectedness and unity of all of Creation.
