Scientific Underpinning: The Universe is Energy, Intelligence and Interconnection

That the universe consists of varied forms of energy is an important spiritual concept which is being demonstrated a piece at a time through advances in scientific discoveries. This is critically important because so many of the historical mystical and metaphysical teachings are now being acknowledged by modern science in ways that seemed impossible as little as a hundred years ago. While scientific proof is not the final arbiter of spiritual truth, for those who have abandoned old systems of superstition or religious teachings requiring blind faith, it is comforting to know that there is now credible evidence of the growing link between scientific understandings and spiritual realities.

Quantum physics has opened up an entirely new way of understanding the universe that did not exist when Newtonian science looked at the world in terms of sold material particles. Physics has shown us is that the universe is a field of energy and vibration. This is metaphysically true as well—our Creator can be understood at one level as a unified field of vibration, although Spirit is of course infinitely more complex than can be described in words or mathematical formulae.

In my view, science has already shown that the existence of an intelligent designer in the universe is highly probable. Scientific discoveries, both old and new, have pointed to the existence of a complex universal design that could not conceivably have sprung up from mere random interactions. The finely calibrated interrelationships between the physical forces governing the spinning of planets around the sun, as well as the spinning of electrons in an atom, have virtually no chance of having come about by random coincidence. Some scientists also believe that the evolution of life on the planet has been shown to have been practically impossible without an underlying intelligent, animating force. Although our scientific understanding of the universe is far from complete, scientific breakthroughs over the last hundred years now permit us to investigate profound spiritual truths in a more rational, ordered way.

Researchers are making new discoveries in fields once thought too “far out” to be the subject of serious scientific study, including intuitive or “psychic” phenomena, “near-death” experiences, altered states of consciousness and energetic healing. Even the now well-accepted evidence of the mind-body connection is a relative newcomer to the field of Western medicine, though its principles have been practiced and understood by people around the world for many centuries.

There is much learning that points to the existence of an intelligent, interconnected universe composed of patterns and fields of energy that we are only now starting to understand in a more scientific manner. These are wonderful developments because they allow us to understand our spirituality from a new perspective that honors our rational mind while opening our hearts to universal truths and universal spiritual wisdom.
